Our last Tupos meeting we discussed how to overcome stress and anxiety. How to have victory over fear and distress. We looked at the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abendego and their experience with the King who put pressure on them to bow to him instead of their God, the Almighty. This is not something that one of us would be likely to face in our American culture, but nevertheless we do face trials, temptations, and other circumstances that test our faith and cause us to make decisions that shape our trust in Christ and ultimately our witness to others.
How can God help?? How can we trust that God will get us through our hardships?
Let us look at Hebrews 4:15 which states “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weakness, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are – yet he did not sin.” The author of Hebrews gives us encouragement in knowing that Jesus Christ, who is our High Priest, one who intercedes for us, that knows what we are going through. We have to remind ourselves that Jesus came to earth, as a human, and endured the same things we endure on a daily basis. Those things include hunger, anger, frustration, happiness, laughter, sadness, and so forth. It also included things such as fear, and anxiety, but he also understood where to go to be freed from such things; the Father.
Thus, Jesus gives us the same invitation. Look at Hebrews 4:16,
Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
We have a place of refuge, a place in which we can find strength and mercy, grace and support. We can go to God, because of Jesus Christ, anytime we need to. God is willing and waiting to help, we just need to come to Him and lay our burdens and worries at His feet for Him to take care of, and leave them there. We don’t have to take them anywhere else we go. Once God has it, it is taken care of completely and forever. But why?
Why does God do such a thing for us? We don’t deserve such kindness. Here is why…
Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. (1 Peter 5:7 NIV)
Simply put by Peter, Jesus cares for you! He loves you and wants what is best for you. Sometimes those trials and temptations are meant for you to grow stronger, to go to Jesus and gain wisdom, strength, and power. Run to Jesus. Run to His throne and recieve grace, mercy, strength, and power. You CAN overcome because God is ABLE to get your through.
